I think we were all anxious to see what MarQueis Gray could do this season as the clear starter going in to game 1. The big question on everyone’s mind going in to game 2 is who the heck is Max Shortell? For a true freshman quarterback, Shortell engineered a hell of a drive for the Gophers under an intense amount of pressure. If Shortell would have led the team to a come from behind upset against the Trojans, would we be looking at things differently going into week 2?
Going in to the game on Saturday, I admit I did not think the Gophers would put up much of a fight against the USC Trojans. As the first couple drives finished with several USC scores, I pretty much accepted that it would only get worse the longer I watched. As the second half came along and the Gophers started making some moves, I was beside myself with shock and disbelief. Towards the end, I felt what I hadn’t felt since the Iowa game last year. The feeling that we might actually be able to do this! In the end, the Gophers did fall short losing to USC 19-17 but as a fan, I left with a good feeling. A feeling that Jerry Kill and the Gophers might actually surprise some people this year and take the first step in reviving the program.
2:30 PM game time this Saturday. That’s means we have ourselves an 8:30 AM Tailgate kick off. Dress warm!!
