Gophers put up a fight in loss to USC

Going in to the game on Saturday, I admit I did not think the Gophers would put up much of a fight against the USC Trojans.  As the first couple drives finished with several USC scores, I pretty much accepted that it would only get worse the longer I watched.  As the second half came along and the Gophers started making some moves, I was beside myself with shock and disbelief.  Towards the end, I felt what I hadn’t felt since the Iowa game last year.  The feeling that we might actually be able to do this!  In the end, the Gophers did fall short losing to USC 19-17 but as a fan, I left with a good feeling.  A feeling that Jerry Kill and the Gophers might actually surprise some people this year and take the first step in reviving the program.

2011, 2012 Big Ten Football Schedules Released

So here it is, the Big “Ten” will split into two divisions.  The Gophers will be in a division with Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and Northwestern.   The Gophers will also play a protected crossover game with Wisconsin each season.  It’s definitely not going to be an easy division to win but it should give the Goph’s a little bit of hope by not having to Penn State or Ohio State on as frequent of a basis.  Maybe they can sneak in an unlikely win against Penn State this year to steal the Governor’s Bell before the new division takes effect.
